Can we have our money back?

Source: UKIP Website

Four Euro-MPs are demanding the government get cash from the EU to help the victims of flooding.

The MEPs from the UK Independence Party who represent the areas affected by the disaster want money from the EU's Solidarity Fund to help people whose homes have been ruined by the floods, and farmers whose entire livelihoods have been washed away.

Nigel Farage, Godfrey Bloom, Mike Nattrass and Graham Booth are calling for help for their constituents, who helped pay for the fund through British donations.

The EU Solidarity Fund was set up after serious flooding hit parts of central Europe in 2002, and tens of millions of euros have been given to countries who suffered.

Godfrey Bloom, MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber, said, "We aren't looking for charity. We put money in the kitty for other countries: we just want some of our own money back."

Graham Booth, who represents the South West, said he was "very concerned about farmers in his region who will face potential ruin from waterlogged crops rotting in the fields."

"We give so much money to the EU," said Mr Booth, "But people in this country need it back to help them rebuild their lives."
