Queen’s speech based upon ‘argument of tyrants’15-11-2006

The Government has used the Queen’s speech to indicate its intention to continue its war on personal freedoms, with a raft of legislation which runs contrary to the principles of a free nation, UKIP Leader Nigel Farage said today (15.11.06).

Mr Farage said that the ending of jury trials for serious fraud, increases in police powers and the right to incarcerate the mentally ill, even if they had done no wrong, were the type of powers more normally associated with police states than democracies.

“This illiberal, repressive legislative programme runs contrary to the principles of natural justice upon which our nation is built. The Government’s cry of necessity is the argument of tyrants. To whom shall we look to preserve British freedoms? Europe? It is a programme borne of Europe, to fit the European model of governance.”
